Position Details

Position: Occupational Health Practitioners (X3 Posts)
Departmental Mission:

The OHP will be responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and managing PRASA’s Occupational Health Program. This includes strategies to minimize occupational health risks, optimize resources, and manage costs while ensuring effective people management.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Matric / Grade 12 Certificate
  • Diploma in General Nursing, Psychiatry, Community Nursing, or Midwifery
  • B Tech in Occupational Health
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Current registration with the South African Nursing Council, with Occupational Health as an additional qualification
  • Professional Indemnity Cover
  • Current SASOHN membership
  • Certificates in Audiometry and Spirometry
  • Registration with SASOHN as an Audiometrist

Only qualified healthcare professionals meeting all criteria will be considered.

Key Performance Areas (KPAs)

Occupational Health Practitioners will be expected to perform the following duties:

  1. Conduct health risk analysis across all PRASA operations
  2. Respond promptly to medical emergencies
  3. Ensure compliance with occupational health legislation and PRASA policies
  4. Maintain accurate and confidential records and documentation
  5. Monitor occupational health exposure trends and recommend control strategies
  6. Design and implement health promotion activities, such as Health Awareness Days
  7. Manage Injuries on Duty (IODs) and strategies to reduce claims
  8. Conduct medical surveillance – pre-employment, periodic, post-incident, exit, and transfer medicals
  9. Refer primary healthcare cases to local clinics or hospitals
  10. Provide counselling and management support for HIV/AIDS and chronic illnesses, including ARV management
